Overview

Durango, CO adopts the following codes:

  • The International Building Code, 2015 edition. Durango, CO Muni. Code § 6-16 (adopted) with amendments at § 6-20.
  • The International Residential Code, 2015 edition. Durango, CO Muni. Code § 6-140 (adopted) with amendments at § 6-144.

Residential Building Code

Colorado has yet to adopt a statewide residential code. Local laws will control.See PLRB, Colorado Building Codes for more information on state level codes.

Durango adopted the 2015 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Contacted Jaclyn Cox, Permit Technician, (5/04/2020) who informed us that "The City of Durango had adopted the 2015 Building Codes which require ice shield underlayment to be installed down to two feet from the edge of the top plate."

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

After researching, we were unable to locate the existing residential building code adoption ordinance.

Commercial Building Code

Chapter 34 of the IBC is amended in its entirety with the inclusion of the provisions of Chapter 34 of the 2012 IBC in its current form and currently adopted.
